| I first found out about CrossFit from my brother after discussing how I wanted to get fit again. I wasn’t sure whether joining a gym was going to help me achieve my goal. My past experiences with gyms are that my goals don’t align with their goals i.e. I want to get fit whereas they were only interested in signing me up on a contract and don’t care too much thereafter! I decided to do a little bit of research on CrossFit and soon realised – this approach to fitness actually makes sense! I was keen to get started, however I was unfamiliar with most of the prescribed exercises and how to scale / substitute. Hence I was pleasantly surprised to find a CrossFit affiliate so close to home! I phoned up to book myself in for an introductory session and haven’t looked back since. |

The last workout I have done is always the most memorable! I really don’t have one that stands out more than any other as they all have a unique way of pushing your body to the limits. I must say however, that some are quite ‘deceptive’ in that they don’t seem too taxing, but prove to be the exact opposite.‘Fran’ (21-15-9 of thrusters and pull-ups) comes to mind as it is a well-known WOD in the CrossFit community. I remember thinking, how tough can this one be? Well, I don’t know what it is about those two exercises in combination that make it so punishing. Anyone who’s done ‘Fran’ will know what I’m talking about. |
| Above all, what I like best about CrossFit Sandringham are the people. The coaches are professional, supportive, focus on proper technique and help you strive to constantly better yourself. Plus you train in a small, friendly, encouraging group, whom all share the same goal of improving their own level of fitness. CrossFit Sandringham is different in that it caters for anyone, at any fitness level, prepared to push their own boundaries. You’re only ever competing against yourself!The coaches carefully scale or substitute exercises if required, to make sure you can complete the workouts safely, yet at the same time provide an intense session for you. |

I’m on my way of attaining the level of fitness I had during my late teenage years. In recent years, after having graduated from university and joined the work force full time, I found my health had taken a back seat to other things in life. I am now serious about making a lifestyle change to improve my overall health and fitness for now and for the years to come – as clichéd as that sounds! In the short time I’ve been training with CrossFit Sandringham, my physical conditioning has improved dramatically. It would have been nice to have found out about CrossFit years earlier! |
