Why CrossFit?
Why CrossFit?
In three words: because it works. CrossFit is not a fad, it’s not something that will come and go. The concepts are proven, they’ve been around for years it’s just now that they’ve been thrust together and someone questioned: “now what if we did this again, faster?”
CrossFit develops fitness through the most complete range of motion with movements that are suitable to people of all walks of life. It is not specialised, it is in fact the complete opposite – generalised.
CrossFit is not for everyone but it will produce unparalleled results for those that are prepared to push their limits, to challenge themselves and their preconceived ideas of fitness. It’s a training protocol for those that like the idea of greater reward for greater effort.
CrossFit vs. ‘Globo’ gym
At CrossFit Sandringham we coach people how to move their body and objects safely and effectively. From the moment you are in the door we tell you the activities to do to get results, coach you how to do it, motivate when needed, correct and support you while you are here. At CrossFit Sandringham you’re allowed to make noise and we even use chalk to help grip heavy stuff sometimes…sounds weird doesn’t it
We have all the equipment we need to provide functional fitness, and none that don’t!
‘Globo’ gyms focus on weight machines and prolonged ‘cardio’ sessions. The first does little to address most if not all of the fitness standards, the latter addresses one of the standards and has a high potential for over-use injuries.
We DON’T let the client do whatever they want without guidance, point them to a machine and leave them alone, teach clients how to move a ‘pin’ or change the tv. channel while on the treadmill.
What does that all mean?
CrossFit is designed to elicit the most extensive physical and mental adaptations possible. The program promotes correct posture and movement, it helps rehabilitate injury, it develops broad and inclusive fitness and it makes you look and feel good.
We use functional movements in constantly varied combinations and perform these at high intensity (yet always safely).
“The magic is in the movement, the art is in the programming, the science is in the explanation, and the fun is in the community.” – Coach Greg Glassman
Who can CrossFit?
Everyone can do CrossFit. We scale the workouts to suit each individual. Grandmothers, commandos, office workers and high school students all do the same movements with differing load and intensity. CrossFit have coached older athletes to reclaim their independence, soldiers to be physical fitter (thus safer) on deployment, fighters to be better conditioned than ever before. CrossFit can benefit you. It’s not easy but the rewards are significant.
